christmas on pierrepont
you cannot tell at all but this is a very beautiful brownstone on a very beautiful block in a generally quite beautiful neighborhood in Brooklyn. These brownstones that give it so much character are pretty envious... normally if you look inside while you walk, you see well decorated but seemingly empty great rooms (I never used this term in my life before today but I know other people that do), staircases, floral arrangements, kitchens to die for. I always look in and wonder who lives there.
On this day, I saw a person though. A small person. A child. Near the winter holidays. And he was silhouetted. And in my mind, I imagined he was playing some great game in a bedroom too large for a child so small. I imagined him like Christopher Robbins or Huck Finn or Peter Pan. I imagined him very excited for presents. I imagined him not wanting to go to sleep..
Then I kept walking.
Day 350a / 365 - December 10, 2010
"The Last of the Xmas Decorations"
First, it was such a long day. Five parties, two of them plated meals, plus a buffet, and a limited menu option. It was also a hockey game, quite a larger than normal happy hour crowd, and the monthly acoustic music band night. Got home quite late. But all went well.
Now on to the "fun" stuff. I took the leftover cheapo Walmart ornaments from last year, and put them in the bowl on the dining room table. Instant festiveness. The dried artichokes will return in January.
OK, so it was a long day, and I was too tired to be inspired. But if you are into holiday decorating, you just might enjoy this one.
